A typical water treatment program moves through four stages. First, coagulation neutralises suspended-solid charges using Poly Aluminium Chloride or alum, forming pin-floc. Second, flocculation with anionic or cationic polyelectrolyte grows that floc into settleable masses for clarification. Third, disinfection with sodium hypochlorite destroys pathogens and controls biological growth, with residual chlorine held to target. Finally, pH correction and polishing — using caustic soda lye, hydrated lime or activated carbon — trim alkalinity, colour and odour before discharge or reuse.
