Coal-based GAC suits municipal and industrial water with moderate organics; coconut-shell carbon has higher hardness and lower ash — preferred for beverage, pharma, and gold CIP where silica leaching is unacceptable. Powdered activated carbon (PAC) for batch ETP colour spikes; granular (GAC) for continuous fixed-bed service. Replace GAC when iodine number drops 40% from fresh or breakthrough appears in effluent TOC.
