Procurement mistake we see repeatedly: ordering ferric alum for a RO pretreatment line because it is cheaper, then failing colour tests after chlorination. Non-ferric alum costs marginally more but eliminates the tea-colour complaint. For textile ETP primary treatment where water is not reused, ferric alum saves 10–15% on coagulant spend.
