Plant engineers who need a PAC powder jar-test calculation for ETP work need a practical protocol — not a product brochure. This guide walks through jar testing PAC 28–30% with polyelectrolyte for textile and chemical effluent, so you lock dose before committing to bulk orders from Vadodara stock.

Jar-test equipment and sample prep

Use a 4–6 place jar tester with 1 L beakers. Collect a representative ETP inlet sample after equalisation. Record pH, temperature, turbidity/NTU, colour (Pt-Co if available) and approximate COD. Adjust sample pH to your plant’s coagulation set-point before dosing if your process corrects pH upstream.

Prepare a 1% PAC stock (10 g PAC powder / L) for accurate microlitre-to-mg/L conversion. For liquid PAC, calculate stock from Al2O3 assay on the COA. Prepare a dilute polyelectrolyte stock (0.1%) only after fully hydrating the polymer per TDS.

Dose ladder and calculation

Run a PAC dose ladder (e.g. 20, 40, 60, 80, 100 mg/L as product) with rapid mix 1–2 min, slow mix 10–15 min, settle 15–20 min. Select the lowest dose that meets turbidity/colour targets without sticky sludge. Then fix PAC and ladder polyelectrolyte (0.2–2 mg/L typical) for floc strength and settling rate.

Convert jar dose to plant dose: Plant PAC kg/day ≈ (mg/L dose × m3/day flow) / 1000. Example: 60 mg/L PAC on 500 m3/day ≈ 30 kg/day product. Always confirm against your COA assay — PAC 30% Al2O3 grades are not interchangeable with lower alumina liquids on a kg-for-kg basis.

Textile ETP specifics

Reactive dye streams often need higher coagulant or a ferric assist for colour. Caustic and peroxide carryover from dyeing raises alkalinity and changes PAC demand — re-jar when process recipes change.
