A biocide is dosed to reduce bacteria, algae and legionella risk in recirculating water. A bio-dispersant is a penetrant/surfactant aid that strips biofilm matrix so biocide contacts live cells — it is not a standalone kill claim and it is not a scale inhibitor.

Biocide roles — oxidising vs non-oxidising
Oxidising biocides (e.g. hypochlorite, bromine donors, some isocyanurates used in related programs) react quickly and are common in open towers — but they interact with corrosion inhibitors and pH. Non-oxidising biocides (isothiazolinones, quaternary blends, etc. — exact grade on COA) provide longer contact kill and are often rotated to limit resistance.
Alternating oxidising and non-oxidising windows is standard practice — see Designing Effective Cooling Tower Biocide Programs for scheduling context. Do not ship floor disinfectant to a tower without compatibility review.
Bio-dispersant — when film persists after biocide
Biofilm on fill, basin walls and low-flow zones shelters bacteria from bulk biocide. Bio-dispersant liquid is dosed before or with biocide slug treatments to loosen organic matrix — expect possible foam on some towers; defoamer may be needed on the same RFQ.
Bio-dispersant does not remove calcium scale. If deposits are mineral, you need scale inhibitor or an offline descaling chemical — not more dispersant alone.
Monitoring and RFQ fields
Share: tower volume, recirculation rate, current biocide names, pH control, oxidising vs non-oxidising schedule, and recent dip-slide or ATP counts. List metallurgy and any anti-corrosion azole already fed — some cationic biocides and filming amines interfere.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I dose only bio-dispersant without biocide?
No — dispersant aids penetration; it does not replace a registered biocide program where your risk assessment requires kill chemistry.
Will bio-dispersant fix high bacteria counts alone?
Unlikely if biofilm is established. Use dispersant as part of a controlled slug with biocide, then return to baseline inhibitor + biocide rotation.
