What acid slurry is — and what it is not
LABSA is sulphonic acid before neutralisation. Typical commercial acid slurry runs near ~90% active (confirm on each COA). After neutralisation with caustic soda lye or soda ash you produce detergent active paste or slurry for spray drying or paste lines.
It is not SLES, not SLS powder, and not AOS liquid — those are separate anionic products. Do not substitute acid slurry on a surfactant PO meant for ether sulphate.
Neutralisation paths (plant reality)
Caustic neutralisation is common for liquid slurry routes — control exotherm, free acid and pH of the neutralised paste. Soda ash routes appear in some powder/cake plants; your chemist’s SOP wins over generic internet recipes.
Free oil and colour on incoming LABSA affect finished cake whiteness and odour. Reject or blend lots that fail your incoming QC — saving on a off-spec drum costs more in rework.
Pairing LABSA with other surfactants
Many powder formulas use neutralised LABSA as the primary anionic, then add AOS liquid or SLS for foam profile, or non-ionics for grease. Liquid detergents may combine neutralised slurry with SLES for mildness.
