Titanium dioxide — rutile, anatase and surface treatment
Rutile TiO₂ is the default for durable exterior coatings and most plastic masterbatch where weathering and gloss matter. Anatase appears in some indoor, paper and catalytic niches — do not substitute without formulator sign-off. Sulphate-process vs chloride-process pigments differ in undertone and dispersion — attach your incumbent code when rebuying.

Coating grades may target UV absorption; cosmetic/pharma paths need grade explicitly named on the PO — not assumed from “industrial white powder.”

Extenders vs pigments — cost engineering without wrong chemistry
Calcium carbonate, talc and clay extend TiO₂ in paints — they reduce cost but do not replace hiding power one-to-one. In rubber, ZnO is not replaced by TiO₂; accelerator packages fail. In sunscreen and UV coatings, ZnO and TiO₂ play different optical roles — follow the formulation sheet.
