When STPP is the right primary builder
Powder and granular laundry formulations, many dishwash blends, and ceramic body slips where tripolyphosphate deflocculation is specified in the legacy BOM. STPP dissolves in soft water for slurry making; granular low-dust grades suit pneumatic handling in Morbi and detergent clusters.
RFQ fields: anhydrous vs hydrated STPP if your formula is sensitive, P₂O₅ assay on COA, granular vs powder, and whether you need food-grade documentation for permitted meat/seafood moisture-retention uses — that is a different compliance packet from industrial detergent grade.
When SHMP beats STPP
Cooling and boiler threshold programs, industrial water where long-chain sequestration matters, and some specialty cleaners where SHMP is named explicitly. SHMP also appears in ceramic and mineral processing deflocculation when the process sheet says hexametaphosphate, not tripoly.
Glassy vs powdered SHMP changes dissolution speed — powder is easier for continuous dosing; glassy may still be on old utility specs. Confirm P₂O₅ (~68% typical on industrial grades) and iron/heavy-metal panel if the material touches food or export formulations.
Phosphate limits, eco labels and paired alkalis
Some state discharge limits and eco-label detergents push buyers toward citrate, zeolite or silicate builders — STPP remains common where phosphates are still permitted. When you remove STPP, you often need metasilicate or caustic adjustment — not a straight one-to-one swap.
Many plants run STPP with soda ash or metasilicate on the same PO from Vadodara. Share finished-product pH target and surfactant system (LABSA/SLES) so the desk does not quote an isolated phosphate without the rest of the cook.
