Methylene dichloride (MDC, dichloromethane, CAS 75-09-2) is a dense, fast-evaporating chlorinated solvent used in resin cleanup, foam blowing assist, pharmaceutical extraction (where licensed), and selected degreasing — not a general floor-washing chemical. The first compliance question on an RFQ is whether your licence, fire system and occupational exposure programme actually allow MDC duty on site.

What COA should show for MDC
Typical industrial COA lines: assay/purity, moisture ( Karl Fischer ), colour, non-volatile residue, and stabilizer level if present. Moisture matters for moisture-sensitive reactions and some extraction trains.
Match lot number to drum label before opening. Chlorinated solvents are frequently adulterated in the grey market — COA plus trusted supplier qualification is your defence.
Vapour, exposure and ventilation
MDC vapour is heavier than air and collects in pits, trenches and low store rooms. Use local exhaust at decanting points, bonded grounding for drums, and gas detection where your EHS team requires it.
PPE: chemical-resistant gloves (not thin disposable nitrile alone for splash), goggles, and respiratory protection per your industrial hygienist when vapour exceeds limits.
Storage and incompatibility
Store cool, closed, away from strong oxidisers, alkali metals and open flame. Drum bays need flame-proof electrical classification where regulations apply — MDC is not classified like a simple alcohol.
Do not pressure-dispense from damaged drums. Secondary containment prevents groundwater incidents if a bung fails.
When buyers ask for ethyl acetate instead
Flammable ester solvents (ethyl acetate, n-butanol blends) suit some adhesive and coating cleanups where chlorinated solvent is banned on customer spec. MDC and EA are not drop-in replacements — surface drying, toxicity profile and fire code differ.

Why does moisture on COA matter?
Water in MDC can affect moisture-sensitive synthesis and some extraction efficiencies. State your max moisture on the RFQ if your SOP has one.
Can MDC replace perchloroethylene in dry cleaning?
That is equipment and licence specific — not a simple swap. RFQ with machine OEM guidance; we supply quoted solvent grade only.
