Buying “sulphate salt, industrial” without naming the metal puts you at risk of wrong hydrate, wrong heavy-metal panel, or a material that oxidises in your tank before it reaches the ETP point. Use this guide to split RFQs correctly; Drashti stocks both lines from Vadodara with batch COA.
Ferrous sulphate — when iron(II) is the point
ETP teams use ferrous sulphate where chromium(VI) reduction, supplemental iron dosing or specific colour programmes are designed around Fe²⁺ — often with pH control and fresh make-down because ferrous oxidises to ferric in aerated tanks. Fertiliser and feed buyers need the grade named: water-treatment ferrous and feed-grade ferrous are not the same heavy-metal story. State “feed” or “fert micronutrient” explicitly on the PO.
Copper sulphate — when copper(II) is the point
Agriculture and horticulture (blended with lime as Bordeaux mixture), aquaculture algicide programs, electroplating baths, and some textile/leather process steps specify copper sulphate pentahydrate with Cu and free-acid limits on the COA. This is not an ETP coagulant substitute for ferric chloride.
Electroplating and export formulations may need tighter metal impurities — attach your bath spec or last accepted COA. Crystals vs powder affects dissolution time; both are common in 25–50 kg bags.
Do not swap ferrous for copper (or vice versa) on guesswork
Ferrous sulphate vs ferric chloride: ferrous behaves as reductant/iron(II) source; ferric coagulates at neutral pH without a reduction step — see water-treatment guides for coagulant choice. Copper sulphate vs zinc sulphate: different micronutrient and plating chemistry — copper is toxic at low doses to fish and sensitive crops; zinc is a different RFQ entirely.
If a catalogue line mixed product names, ignore the tag and write “FeSO₄ hydrate” or “CuSO₄ pentahydrate” on the RFQ with application (ETP, plating, ag).
Handling, COA and procurement from Vadodara
Both salts are corrosive and stain; ferrous solutions oxidise and leave ferric sludge in poorly vented tanks. Store dry bags sealed; make solutions close to the dose point. COA: Fe or Cu assay, free acid/sulphate where relevant, heavy metals for ag/feed grades, lot matched to invoice.

Can ferrous sulphate replace copper sulphate in agriculture?
No — they supply different plant nutrients and carry different toxicity and regulatory handling. Copper programmes need CuSO₄ specified on the PO with ag-grade COA where required.
Heptahydrate vs monohydrate ferrous sulphate — which do I quote?
Match the hydrate on your dose sheet and incumbent COA. Assay numbers are not interchangeable without recalculating iron content.
Is copper sulphate used in ETP like ferrous sulphate?
Rarely as a direct swap. Copper is specialised (some metal treatments, specific streams); mainstream coagulation is ferric/alum/PAC. Name your stream before ordering either salt for ETP.
What documentation should ag and plating buyers demand?
Cu or Fe assay, hydrate form, heavy-metal panel if your market requires it, MSDS, and lot-linked COA on the GST invoice from the dispatch warehouse.
