Acetic Acid Food Grade vs Industrial: RFQ Checklist for Textile and Process Buyers

Glacial acetic acid RFQ fields — food vs commercial grade, assay, packing, FSSAI-adjacent documentation and when textile dyeing does not need food grade.

Supplying industrial chemicals from Vadodara since 2015 — ETP coagulants, RO programs, and process chemicals with batch COA/MSDS.

Food-grade acetic acid and industrial glacial acetic acid often share the same CAS (64-19-7) and look identical in a drum photo — but they are not interchangeable on a PO. Food and export-adjacent buyers need named limits on assay, heavy metals and sometimes packaging hygiene; textile dyeing and leather acidulation usually run commercial/industrial grade at lower documentation cost.

Drashti Chemicals quotes acetic acid from Vadodara with COA matched to the grade you name on the RFQ. We do not assume food-grade unless you write it — bay stock stays segregated by invoice labelling.

When you actually need food grade

Direct food contact, beverage acidulation, some pharma excipient routes and customer audits that cite food-chemical specs require food-grade glacial with tight heavy-metal COA lines.

Textile dye bath pH, leather pickle assist, and general process acidulation typically use industrial/commercial glacial — but if the fabric exports as infant wear or food-wrap adjacency, your customer may still demand food-grade paper trail. Ask downstream before you optimize on grade.

RFQ lines procurement should never skip

Write: glacial vs dilute if applicable, min assay % (often 99% min for glacial), food vs industrial/commercial, monthly kg, pack (35 kg HDPE carboy/drum is common), delivery city, and required COA parameters (Pb, Fe, non-volatile residue if listed on your QA sheet).

Add whether you buffer with sodium acetate — many dye houses order both from one supplier to keep molar ratios consistent.

COA and storage mistakes

Glacial acetic freezes near 16.7°C — winter storage in an unheated store slows pumping. HDPE is standard; verify bung seals because vapour is flammable and irritating.

Reject drums with broken seals or wrong batch on COA. Acetic is hygroscopic when diluted; keep glacial drums closed.

Industrial vs food: cost and audit reality

Food-grade lots cost more and move on tighter QC — worth it when your customer file demands it. Using industrial grade on a food PO is an audit failure, not a small savings.

We do not publish list prices; compare quotes on the same assay and COA limits, not on a generic “glacial acetic” line item.

Pairing with formic acid and acetate salts

Some finishing lines alternate formic and acetic for pH profiles. Sodium acetate trihydrate is the salt side of buffer systems — it does not replace glacial acetic on its own.

Consolidate acids and acetate on one Vadodara dispatch when monthly volumes justify mixed loads.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is glacial acetic acid always 99%?

Most glacial specs cite high assay (commonly 99% min). Confirm on COA — dilute acetic solutions are a different SKU.

Can textile dyeing use industrial grade acetic acid?

Often yes for pH control in dyeing and finishing — unless your buyer contract mandates food-grade documentation. State the end use on the RFQ.

Do you supply food-grade acetic acid from Vadodara?

We quote food-grade when named on the RFQ with the COA limits you need. Industrial grade is quoted separately — we do not auto-upgrade.

What pack sizes do you stock?

Typically HDPE drums/carboys as quoted — share monthly volume so we line up drum vs bulk economics without publishing ₹/kg online.
